For the second straight year, the McIntosh High School girls lacrosse team will be hosting MacMadness. This year’s event starts at 6 p.m. in the McIntosh football stadium when the girls kick-off their spring season with a scrimmage against Woodward Academy.The McIntosh band drum line will perform during halftime and in addition to the on-field activities, there will be a silent auction and bake sale. Gates open at 5 p.m. Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for adults with all proceeds going to support the girls lacrosse program.

The American Legion will host their District level High School Oratorical Contest in Peachtree City at 6:30 p.m. at the Bridge Community Center in Peachtree City. Author Victoria Wilcox will bring stories of Doc Holliday and his Georgia and Gone With the Wind connections to the Senoia Area Historical Society at 7 p.m. Wilcox is the author of Inheritance, the first book in the historical novel trilogy “Southern Son: The Saga of Doc Holliday.” Wilcox will present “Gone With the Wind Goes West: The Surprising Southern Heritage of Doc Holliday,” followed by a book signing of Inheritance.

Blending the storytelling style of the wildly popular musical “Smoke on the Mountain” with the down home humor of the movie “O Brother, Where Art Thou?,” “Keep on the Sunny Side,” is fun and enriching entertainment for the entire family. Helping tell the family’s story on the Legacy stage will be a group of six talented actor/musicians who have spent the past few weeks delving into the music and heritage of the Carter family. The South Metro Rose Society, a local affiliate of the American Rose Society, will be holding its annual Community Rose Pruning Clinic today at 10 a.m. The rain date is February 16 at 1:00 p.m. This

The Fayette County Historical Society will hear Fayette County Historical Society member, Angela Pendleton, speak on “I’m Dying to Get it Done,” at 3 p.m. The workshop is meant to help you with your genealogical research. A Company of Friends Theatrical Productions is holding open auditions for their spring musical, Disney’s “Peter Pan, Jr.” today and Feb. 24 for performers ages seven through 21 years of age. This Disney classic features a large cast of over 30 performers and has many roles for both males and females. Auditions will consist of a simple taught dance and song and cold readings from the script. Auditions will be held at the Fayetteville Train Depot in Fayetteville, right off the square. Schedule breakdown for auditions is Sunday at 5 p.m. for ages 7 to 9 years, 6:30 p.m. for ages 10 to 13 years and February 24 for ages 14 to 21 years and then call-backs for all ages at 7 p.m. for all ages. Performances will be April 23-27 with no rehearsals over spring break. ACOF does require a production fee from all who are cast in shows. The fee for Peter Pan is $95 and covers all costumes and personal props. Fee can be covered by purchasing ads for the program or paying by check on the first rehearsal. There is a 20 percent discount for family members who are cast together.

The South Metro Rose Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Heritage Bank at 440 N. Jeff Davis Drive in Fayetteville. All rose growers from novice to expert are invited to attend free of charge. This month’s program features Clayton Beaty, owner of Beaty Fertilizer, Inc. of Cleveland, Tennessee. Educated at Tennessee Tech, Mr. Beaty started his fertilizer business in the late 70s and in the mid 80s developed Mills Magic Rose Mix, a blend of 8 eight different organics that roses thrive on and is sold internationally. Beaty Fertilizer also carries many other types of fertilizers and gardening products. Beaty will speak to the club on a variety of topics which will include amending our soil to produce the best roses and his trip in Feb. 2013 to see the rose gardens of China. Robert J. Burch Elementary will be having its fourth annual Burch Bear Tracks today at 8 a.m. and includes Tot Trot, Mile Fun Run, and a 5K race. The primary goal for this event is to promote health and wellness through fitness as well as raise money for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in their effort to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. The secondary goal is to fund Burch’s running club in which hundreds of students participate.
