For the second straight year, the McIntosh High School girls lacrosse team will be hosting MacMadness. This year’s event starts at 6 p.m. in the McIntosh football stadium when the girls kick-off their spring season with a scrimmage against Woodward Academy.The McIntosh band drum line will perform during halftime and in addition to the on-field activities, there will be a silent auction and bake sale. Gates open at 5 p.m. Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for adults with all proceeds going to support the girls lacrosse program.

The Greater Fayette Republican Women’s Club will welcome Art Gardener, Eugene Yu, and Karen Handel, candidates for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate, as guest speakers at today’s meeting.  The meeting will begin at 6:30pm at the Tyrone Depot, 847 Senoia Rd. in Tyrone. The American Legion will host their District level High School Oratorical Contest in Peachtree City at 6:30 p.m. at the Bridge Community Center in Peachtree City. This oratorical program is called “A Constitutional Speech Contest” and will include the 1st place winners from the Post level contests held recently here in our local area. Author Victoria Wilcox will bring stories of Doc Holliday and his Georgia and Gone With the Wind connections to the Senoia Area Historical Society at 7 p.m. Wilcox is the author of Inheritance, the first book in the historical novel trilogy “Southern Son: The Saga of Doc Holliday.” Wilcox will present “Gone With the Wind Goes West: The Surprising Southern Heritage of Doc Holliday,” followed by a book signing of Inheritance.

“Keep on the Sunny Side: The Songs and Story of the Carter Family,” is today at 8 p.m. at the Legacy Theatre. Blending the storytelling style of the wildly popular musical “Smoke on the Mountain” with the down home humor of the movie “O Brother, Where Art Thou?,” “Keep on the Sunny Side,” is fun and enriching entertainment for the entire family. Helping tell the family’s story on the Legacy stage will be a group of six talented actor/musicians who have spent the past few weeks delving into the music and heritage of the Carter family. PetSmart Charities is presenting its National Adoption weekend February 14, 15 and 16 and the Fayette Humane Society will be participating at the Peachtree City PetSmart store.  Adoption hours are Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., or by appointment. The South Metro Rose Society, a local affiliate of the American Rose Society, will be holding its annual Community Rose Pruning Clinic today at 10 a.m. The rain date is February 16 at 1:00 p.m. This
event id at the rose garden in front of Heritage Bank in Fayetteville . Members of the community are invited to attend at no charge. They will gain valuable hands-on experience in rose pruning as well as answers to any rose growing questions from society members. The Fayette County Historical Society will hear Fayette County Historical Society member, Angela Pendleton, speak on “I’m Dying to Get it Done,” at 3 p.m. The workshop is meant to help you with your genealogical research. Pendleton has a Bachelor of Arts with an interest in archiving. You do not have to be a member to attend. A Company of Friends Theatrical Productions is holding open auditions for their spring musical, Disney’s “Peter Pan, Jr.” today and Feb. 24 for performers ages seven through 21 years of age. This Disney classic features a large cast of over 30 performers and has many roles for both males and females. Auditions will consist of a simple taught dance and song and cold readings from the script. Auditions will be held at the Fayetteville Train Depot in Fayetteville, right off the square. Schedule breakdown for auditions is Sunday at 5 p.m. for ages 7 to 9 years, 6:30 p.m. for ages 10 to 13 years and February 24 for ages 14 to 21 years and then call-backs for all ages at 7 p.m. for all ages. Performances will be April 23-27 with no rehearsals over spring break. ACOF does require a production fee from all who are cast in shows. The fee for Peter Pan is $95 and covers all costumes and personal props. Fee can be covered by purchasing ads for the program or paying by check on the first rehearsal. There is a 20 percent discount for family members who are cast together.

The South Metro Rose Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Heritage Bank at 440 N. Jeff Davis Drive in Fayetteville. All rose growers from novice to expert are invited to attend free of charge. This month’s program features Clayton Beaty, owner of Beaty Fertilizer, Inc. of Cleveland, Tennessee. Educated at Tennessee Tech, Mr. Beaty started his fertilizer business in the late 70s and in the mid 80s developed Mills Magic Rose Mix, a blend of 8 eight different organics that roses thrive on and is sold internationally. Beaty Fertilizer also carries many other types of fertilizers and gardening products. Beaty will speak to the club on a variety of topics which will include amending our soil to produce the best roses and his trip in Feb. 2013 to see the rose gardens of China. He will also introduce us to some of the latest rose growing products offered by Beaty Fertilizer. Please join us for this interesting and informative program. Promise Place is hosting its first ever Improv Comedy night  tonight  at 6:30 p.m. titled “Promise You’ll Laugh”. The event is at the Legacy Theatre in Tyrone. A professional improvisational group from Atlanta will entertain the audience with 100 percent of the proceeds directly benefitting Promise Place. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase for $30 in advance or $35 at the door. The Flat Creek Ladies Golf Association Welcome Breakfast is today. Join a lively group of women for 18 holes of golf on Tuesdays beginning March 4 with our “Welcome Breakfast” at 9 am at Flat Creek Country Club in Peachtree City.  Membership requirement are:
 Georgia State Golf Association (GSGA) index of 40.4 or less
 Canongate membership in good standing  $35 annual dues payable to Flat Creek Ladies Golf Association (FCLGA)
Tuesday Play Days begin March 11 and end Nov. 11 with 9 a.m. shotgun starts.  You are not required to play every single play date; only play as often as you wish to play. The Peachtree City Garden Club will host its monthly meeting today at The Bridge Community Center in Peachtree City. The Metro South Regional Transition Council, an eight county collaborative (including Fayette) will host a Life After High School Conference and Expo for students with disabilities and their families today. Robert J. Burch Elementary will be having its fourth annual Burch Bear Tracks today at 8 a.m. and includes Tot Trot, Mile Fun Run, and a 5K race. The primary goal for this event is to promote health and wellness through fitness as well as raise money for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in their effort to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. The secondary goal is to fund Burch’s running club in which hundreds of students participate.
