The annual luminary sale to benefit J.C. Booth Middle School band program is again underway. Band students are selling luminary kits for $5. Each kit contains six bags, six candles and sand. Proceeds from the sale are used for instruments, music and other program expenses. Traditional luminary lightings are on Christmas Eve, with many neighborhoods participating. Bags, weighted with sand and holding a lit candle, are placed along street curbs, walkways and driveways at about six foot intervals. The effect of the glowing lights is spectacular. The Clayton State Film and Digital Media Industry Open House is today at 10 a.m. at the Sandy Creek High School auditorium.More than 200 people have already registered for the event. Individuals wishing to attend must preregister by calling 678- 466-5050. The Clayton State Center for Continuing Education is open Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Open House will focus on Clayton State’s new Film and Digital Media Training Program which begins in February 2014. The training program, which consists of two, 12-week sessions, is modeled after a very successful program in New Mexico.

Pumpkin Festival/Fayette Market Day/Costume Contest and Trick or Treat on Main Street is today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Fayetteville. The Healing Bridge Clinic will host a fundraiser, the Spooktacular Golf Cart Scavenger Hunt from 9 a.m. to noon at The Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center Hotel in Peachtree City. The annual “House of Clues” event will be hosted by the Optimist Club of Peachtree City in conjunction with the Peachtree City’s Fire Department Haunted House. The non-scary “House of Clues” is based on the board game “Clue” with children going from room to room collecting clues to solve the mystery of who did it, in which room, with what! Children participate in “fun” activities and collect prizes in each room. Children are guided through the rooms by “Detectives” from our Starr’s Mill High School Octagon Club & Peachtree City Youth Council.
The House of Clues is for children ages 3 years to 10 years and the cost is $5.per child. Parents are free and encouraged to participate with their children. The event will be held at the Peachtree City Fire House #81 at 110 Paschall Rd. and opens at 7 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m. The Optimist Club will also provide a concession stand with hot dogs, chips, soft drinks and homemade hot apple cider. The Autumn Chase Trail Race, which supports the fitness center’s community fitness programs, consists of a 15k (9 miles) and 5k (3.2 miles) race beginning at 8 a.m., a one-mile fun run starting at 9:15 a.m., and a tot trot at 9:30 a.m. Those interested in supporting the event but not participating in the races can enjoy activities for the entire family, including a Kids’ Castle park, sponsor giveaways and more.

Dr. Walt Todd, professor at Shorter University of Atlanta, will return to The Carnegie in Newnan from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. to provide another program for the history series, “World War II – Remembering The War”.
Dr. Todd has presented numerous World War II history programs at The Carnegie including: “The Aleutian Islands: The Invasion of Attu”, “Operation Vengeance: The Death of Admiral Yamamoto”, “The Battle of Guadalcanal” and “The Invasion of Japan: The Last Sacrifice?” Well researched and with a passion for history, Dr. Todd provides a lecture series at The Carnegie that includes a PowerPoint presentation along with a display of weapons and memorabilia from World War II.

Marines faithfully celebrate the birth of their Corps (Nov. 10, 1775) throughout the world each year. Locally, the Coweta and Fayette Sergeant Clyde Thomason Medal of Honor Detachment (#1325) of the Marine Corps League has held a birthday ball celebration for members and their guests since their inception four years ago.

The American Cancer Society will host the 11th Annual Cattle Baron’s Ball today at the Atlanta Regional Airport – Falcon Field. The Cattle Baron’s Ball is the only country western themed gala in the state of Georgia and has raised more than $1.2 million for the American Cancer Society. Fayette County Retired Educators meets today, Nov.7 at 10:30 a.m. at the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church in the Family Life Center (gym). This is our Scholarship Auction meeting to raise money for a high school senior from one of Fayette County’s schools. FCREA annually gives a $1,500 scholarship to an aspiring educator. The program will feature auctioneer Patty Brown from The Red Belly Rooster Auction House here in Fayetteville. Bring a gift to be auctioned and have fun with us. Fayette County is home to over 1,300 retired educators, and all are welcome to attend our local meetings. Our group welcomes all administrators, teachers, parapros and others who receive their retirement from Teachers Retirement System of Georgia. Retired educators from other counties are also welcome.
