Peachtree City is getting closer to exhausting its $3 million in repairs authorized by a bond package approved last year.
The $572,000 repair of the roof over the Peachtree City Library is now complete, and now the city is studying options to resurface the All Children’s Playground behind City Hall.
Community Services Director Jon Rorie told the city council Thursday night that staff wants to pick the best solution to make sure the city gets a long-lasting surface for the playground. The city has budgeted $42,000 for the project.
There was also some community concern about the playground because the city recently took out the adaptive swings for disabled children and replaced them with regular swings.
Rorie told The Citizen that the adaptive swings were damaged and replacements are on the way, but because the older adaptive swings were defective, the city couldn’t leave them up and thus the decision was made to put up regular swings temporarily.
Beyond the All Children’s Playground, Rorie told council that another $45,000 is lingering for the electrical grounding upgrade for the city’s public pools and another $19,860 was left over from improvements to the tennis center and can be moved to another project.
The city is also preparing to show off the newly renovated Glenloch community center with a grand opening October 16, Rorie noted. The event will be in conjunction with launching a mission and expectation statement as the city transitions into a maintenance phase for all its newly repaired and upgraded facilities, he added.
“We are getting close and continue to make progress,” Rorie said.
