The Fayette County Branch of the NAACP invites the community and especially  native Texans to its third annual Juneteenth celebration and commemoration at the Fayette County Library  at 6:30 p.m. Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19 as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond.

Free Family “Moovie Night” featuring “OzThe Great and Powerful” is at the Southern Ground Amphitheater in Fayetteville. Gates open at 7 p.m. Movie starts at sunset. The event is sponsored by Chick-fil-A.

The historical artifact version of “antique roadshows” is coming to Indian Springs on June 22. Members of the Ocmulgee Archaeological Society will be on hand to identify and date Indian artifacts from all periods and historic artifact from the earliest days of Georgia’s settlement. Several noted experts from across Georgia will be on hand to identify and record Clovis, Dalton and other early projectile points. In addition to the  artifact identification, artifact collections, flintknapping demonstrations, primitive weapons & friction fire demonstrations  will also take place. A public demonstration of emergency Communications is today in Senoia.Despite the Internet, cell phones, email and modern communications, every year whole regions find themselves in the dark. Tornadoes, fires, storms, ice and even the occasional cutting of fiber optic cables leave people without the means to communicate. In these cases, the one consistent service that has never failed has been Amateur Radio. Fayette and Coweta “hams” will join with thousands of other Amateur Radio operators showing their emergency capabilities. . On the weekend of June 22-23, the public will have a chance to meet and talk with Fayette and Coweta ham radio operators and see for themselves what the Amateur Radio Service is about as hams across the USA will be holding public demonstrations of emergency communications abilities.
This annual event is called “Field Day. Using only emergency power supplies, ham operators will set up in Merrimac Lakes Park in the city of Senoia They will be operating from June 22 at 2 p.m. until Sunday, June 23 at 2 p.m. More than 35,000 amateur radio operators across the country participated in last year’s event.

The Coweta County Master Gardener Extension Volunteers are holding a propagation workshop, “Propagating Shrubs and Plants from Softwood Cuttings” from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. at the Coweta County Extension Greenhouse located just inside the Coweta County Fairgrounds next to the Horse Arena, at 275 Pine Road in Newnan.

Peachtree City’s parade honoring Peachtree City’s Vietnam Veterans is today at 9 a.m. In honor of the 40th Anniversary of the last combat troops leaving Vietnam in 1973, Peachtree City’s July 4  Parade this year features a special tribute to our Vietnam veterans.  If you have a Vietnam Veteran in your family and would like to enter a decorated golf cart for them to ride in on the fourth, please note that this is for a Vietnam Veteran when you register.  All carts for Vietnam Veterans will be grouped together at the start of the parade. If you are a Peachtree City resident who served in Vietnam and do not have a cart available but would like to participate, please email [email protected]. The Fayette County Republican Party welcomes the public to attend our first Saturday of the month at the Fayetteville IHOP. The Fayette County Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring a hitting and base running baseball clinic today from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Kiwanis Park Field No. 7. The clinic is for ages 12-14 and the deadline to register is July 5. The fee is $15 for a county resident and $22.50 for a non-county resident.
