Fayette County Post 105 of The American Legion will again be hosting their traditional Memorial Day Ceremony to honor America’s military heroes May 27. The patriotic observance begins at 11 a.m., and ends at noon.

The graveyard ceremony will be held at the historic Fayetteville City Cemetery among the flag decorated markers of the veterans buried there. The cemetery is located next to the Fayette County Board of Education offices on Ga. Highway 54. All Fayette County residents are invited to come to the cemetery and bring lawn chairs for seating. Legionnaires will be available to assist senior citizens with seating.

The keynote address will be given by Army helicopter pilot, Vietnam veteran and local author Terry Garlock. Other speakers will be U.S. Representative Lynn Westmoreland, state Senator Ronnie Chance and state Representative Matt Ramsey. Retired manager of the Holliday-Dorsey-Fife House Museum John Lynch will again share some of his extensive knowledge of this Fayetteville landmark.

The PTC-Falcon Field Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol will provide the color guard for the ceremony and members of the Fayette County High School Band will perform our National Anthem. The Sons of the American Revolution are scheduled to fire a musket volley to salute the veterans buried there and Taps will sound to end the ceremony.

In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place at the nearby American Legion Log Cabin, next to the Fayetteville Fire Department.
