Peachtree City American Legion Post 50 held their Post level Oratorical Contest on Jan. 20 to a very impressed group of Legion members and local community attendees. The first Place winner of this year Post 50 contest is Elizabeth Trinh, a 11th grade student at Northview High School. Elizabeth will now advance to the Legion’s 4th District contest level which will be held on Saturday, March 2 at 9 a.m., at The Bridges Community and Event Center, located at 225 Willowbend Rd, Peachtree City. This premier American Legion Youth Program is being held at various Post and Districts all over the State of Georgia and is open to the public.
The oratorical program is called “A Constitutional Speech Contest.” The American Legion Oratorical Contest exists to develop deeper knowledge and appreciation for the U.S. Constitution among high school students. Since 1938, the annual program has presented participants with an academic speaking challenge that teaches important leadership qualities, the history of our nation’s laws, the ability to think and speak clearly, and an understanding of the duties, responsibilities, rights and privileges of American citizenship. The program has featured numerous politicians and prominent contestants over the years, including former Presidential candidate Alan Keyes and CNN anchor Lou Dobbs.
