Peachtree City residents will face some higher recreation fees starting next month under a proposal that will be considered by the City Council Thursday night.
The fees for quarterly pool passes will increase 10 percent while facility rental rates will increase by 20 percent. Also, team fees for adult athletics will increase 10 percent.
The city will also begin to offer an annual pool pass, an annual gym pass and also “punch card” passes for the pool or gym which will cover 10 uses.
The other fees going up involve special events ranging from competitions such as marathons, triathlons, fundraisers including walk and run components and others such as the Great Georgia Air Show and the Relay for Life cancer fundraiser.
The city also would institute application fees from $25 to $100 based on the size of the proposed event and community impact while also offering items for rent such as tables, chairs, traffic and pedestrian barricades and the like. Also the city will charge a fee of $25 per event for an electrical connection.
Previously the city didn’t charge any such fees for special events, even though the items were set up and retrieved by city staff. The fees are designed to help recoup some of the money spent on staff time, officials have said previously.
In other business Thursday, the council is also expected to approve a lease-purchase agreement to finance the purchase of $1.01 million in equipment ranging from new computers to a new rescue truck for the fire department along with three new dump trucks for public works.
Also in for the five-year financing plan are a patrol motorcycle for the police department and an “infield finisher” to help prepare sports fields.
The new computers along with various network and server upgrades account for more than $462,000. The rescue truck will cost $195,200 and the dump trucks will cost about $272,000.
The police motorcycle will set the city back $32,726.
Also on Thursday’s agenda is the appointment of a council member to serve in a post on the city’s convention and visitors bureau. Council is also slated to consider approving an amended development agreement for The Gates subdivision on Ga. Highway 74 south near Redwine Road.
