Griffin Judicial Circuit Juvenile Court Judge Tarey B. Schell, 72, of Peachtree City and Tybee Island, Georgia died at Piedmont Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia on September 7, 2011.

Prior to his current title, Tarey served as the presiding Judge of the Juvenile Court Griffin Circuit from 2004 to 2008. He was the Associate Judge of the Juvenile Court Griffin Circuit from 1999 – 2004. He was graduated from the Georgia State University School of Law in 1990 and was a partner in the law firm of Burn and Schell from 1990 to 2004.

Judge Schell was graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, in 1961. During his 26-year active military career, he earned a Master’s degree in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania in 1968 and served as Operations Officer for the 1st Cavalry Division Artillary, Vietnam (1968-1969); Professor of English USMA (1969-1972); Assistant Dean USMA (1976-1980); Hq2DIVARTY, Korea (1980-1981); Assistant PAO HgFORSCOM, Fort McPherson, Georgia (1981-1984). He retired from active duty as Lieutenant Colonel in 1984.

He was born on January 19, 1939 in Rugby, North Dakota, to Joseph and Myrtle Schell. He married Priscilla J.Healy of Rye, New York on June 10, 1961.

Judge Schell is survived by Priscilla H. Schell, his wife of 50 years, his four children, Gretchen Schell, Adrienne Barreto, Lauren Bozone, and Christopher Schell, son-in-law Raul Barreto, daughter-in-law Teri Schell and grandchildren Matthew, Cathryn, and Erin Bozone; Raul, Ryan, and Ross Barreto; Mica and Romina Schell; and Sierra Schell.

The visitation will take place at Carl J. Mowell and Son Funeral Home, 200 Robinson Road, Peachtree City, Georgia on Friday, September 9, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:30 PM. The funeral mass will take place at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Peachtree City, Georgia on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. Internment will immediately follow mass at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Highway 54, Peachtree City, Georgia. Reception following internment at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Peachtree City, Georgia.
