Massachusetts residents John and Ellen Gallant traveled to Peachtree City last week to be near relatives as they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary at the home of Jim and Julie Veilleux. The couple met on a blind date in 1938 and were married on Aug. 2, 1941. John joined the Navy and served in the North Atlantic on a destroyer escort in WWII. Ellen and their family moved from Massachusetts to Michigan to Missouri and back to Massachusetts again over the years while rearing eight children. John sold ice from an ice truck with his father in his younger years and made and sold root beer. He became a salesman who introduced electronics to industry in the 1950s. In the 1960s John made the move to real estate and is still in the profession today at age 91. They have 18 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren with a few more on the way.
