Fayette County sheriff’s detectives are searching for two men who broke into an east Fayette convenience store

Friday morning and stole $7,000 in scratch-off lottery tickets.

The incident set off an alarm at the Shell Food Mart on Hwy. 54 but the men were gone by the time deputies arrived, officials said.

The store’s surveillance camera captured the incident, which began around 5:30 a.m. when the burglars exited a dark-colored Ford Explorer or Mercury Mountaineer. They shattered the front glass door of the convenience store and once inside stole five plastic towers containing the lottery tickets, officials said.

Following the incident, three different men attempted to collect winnings on the stolen tickets at four different stores in Atlanta and College Park, detectives said. Those men were seen arriving in a vehicle that matched the suspect from the burglary scene here, deputies said.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 770-716-4755.
