Peachtree City once again in CNN/Money Top 100 Places to Live
For the fourth time in a row, Peachtree City has earned a spot in CNN/Money Magazine’s Top 100 Best Places to Live, coming in at #91 and the only small town in Georgia to make the list. The publication ranks small towns (population under 50,000) in odd numbered years based on a variety of factors, including median income, job growth, home affordability, safety, school quality, health care, arts and leisure, and diversity. Peachtree City ranked as #8 in 2005 and 2009, and as #64 in 2007. DAPC Holds Special Called Meeting Tonight
The Development Authority of Peachtree City will hold a special called meeting on Monday, August 15, 5:00 p.m., in the Floy Farr room of the Peachtree City Library (please enter upstairs). The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the DAPC mission statement and recent projects that support economic development in Peachtree City, followed by a question and answer session with audience members.
Recreation Commission Meets Tonight
The Recreation Commission will hold a workshop on Monday, August 15, 6:30 p.m., in City Council Chambers to discuss the state of City Recreation Facilities and Fenced Account Usage. The public is welcome.
City Council Meets Thursday
The Mayor and Council will meet on Thursday, August 18, 7:00 p.m., at City Hall. The agenda includes the adoption of the 2011 Millage Rates and the FY 2012 Budget, a qualifying location designation for alcohol at special events at The Gathering Place, the reclassification of several positions related to the recent reorganization, and an intergovernmental agreement with the Public Facilities Authority related to new debt and refinancing of old debt. Library Opening Late Saturday, August 20
The Peachtree City Library will delay opening on Saturday, Aug. 20, until 1:00 p.m. due to the Triathlon event taking place around the City Hall/Library Complex.
Non Profits Can Exhibit Free at Help Fest
Help Fest is looking for Non Profits to have a FREE BOOTH at Kidz Fest/Food Fest/ Help Fest on Saturday August 27, 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Shakerag Knoll on McIntosh Trail. Non-profit organizations can promote their organization, hand out information, and even create a volunteer list at their booths. Kidz Fest – Saturday, August 27
Kidz Fest / Food Fest will be held on Saturday, August 27, from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. in Peachtree City. Big crowds are expected, and the City is looking for local food vendors. 5K “Run from Domestic Violence”
Promise Place will sponsor its annual 5K “Run from Domestic Violence” on Friday, September 30, at City Hall in Peachtree City. All funds raised from this event will go towards the Emergency Shelter and Home, where victims of domestic violence can go for safety, protection and to begin to repair and rebuild their lives. Security Alarm Registration Underway as part of new False Alarm Ordinance
Over 80% of false alarms are the result of human error, and 50% of those errors occur when the alarm is being turned on and off. Under Peachtree City’s new ordinance, anyone with a burglar alarm system must register the system. Permit applications are available at the Police Department or online at www.peachtree-city.org/alarm, which also includes a full copy of the ordinance, tips for alarm use and useful questions to ask your alarm company.
Project Updates:
Highway 54 Intersections – The Georgia Department of Transportation continues to work on intersections on Highway 54 from Peachtree Parkway to the eastern City Limits. At Walt Banks, Robinson, and Peachtree Parkway, they are installing new mast arms and poles, signal heads, cabinets and equipment, streetlights, pedestrian crossing equipment, and making various crosswalk improvements. Please drive with extra caution in these areas when workers are present.
Wynnmeade Sewer Project – Kings Ridge Dr. CLOSED intermittently August 16 – 24 – the Peachtree City Water & Sewerage Authority will need to close Kings Ridge Dr. intermittently during the next two weeks for sewer repairs, part of the time at the southern intersection with Wynnmeade Pkwy, and the remainder at the northern intersection. Residents should use the other entrance during closures. When the roadway is closed, it will be shut down at 8:00 a.m. and reopened in the evening.
Library Lower Level Entrance CLOSED for Repairs – The lower level entrance to the PTC Library remains closed due to cracks in the masonry. The area has been barricaded for safety reasons until repairs are completed. Please use the main entrance to the Library upstairs until further notice.
