Old bus barn burglarized for copper wire —

The past few days came with burglaries on city property and at a business in Fayetteville, and a report in Peachtree City of a man upset after seeing another man wearing a MAGA (Make America Great Again) hat.

Fayetteville Police Department spokesperson Ann Marie Burdett said a burglary occurred on May 2 at the former school system bus barn, now part of the city property that is being converted to the City Center Park area behind the new City Hall being constructed on Stonewall Avenue.

The bus barn, which is also being converted to another use, is surrounded by a security fence, which was cut. Burdett said a truck then drove onto the property.

Forced entry into the building was made after a rock was thrown through a window glass. Copper wire being store in the building was stolen, said Burdett.

In another incident, a burglary at a Fayetteville business on Habersham Drive was reported May 4. The business owner told officers the building was locked at the end of the day on May 1, though a television was found missing when the business re-opened on May 4, Burdett said.

There was no apparent forced entry, though the owner told officers a cleaning company had access to the building, Burdett said.

In Peachtree City, an officer on May 4 at 5:07 p.m. responded to a disturbance call to the Publix store on Ga. Highway 74 South.

Upon arrival, the officer met with the complainant who said he had been approached by an unknown black male who expressed his displeasure that the complainant was wearing a MAGA (Make America Great Again) hat, according to police reports. The MAGA hat is normally worn by supporters of Republican President Donald Trump.

There was no physical contact, and the man who did not like the hat had left the scene prior to the officer’s arrival, reports said.
