The Los Angeles Angels reached all the way to Fayette County last weekend for a catching prospect in the late rounds of the Major League Baseball draft.

Brennan Morgan, a graduate of McIntosh High School who just completed his senior season at Kennesaw State University, was selected in 24th round Saturday as the 726th overall pick.

“I am very proud of Brennan for being selected by the Los Angeles Angels,” said KSU head coach Mike Sansing. “It is very well deserving and I appreciate his leadership during the 2016 season. He did an excellent job in handling our pitching staff.”

As as senior Morgan appeared in 44 games made 39 starts behind the plate for the Owls. He compiled a .319 batting average with 11 multi-hit games and led the team with 39 RBI and 33 walks. In conference play he hit .375 with seven doubles and three home runs. The 22-year-old is listed at 6-feet-4 and 235 pounds.

His 2016 performance warranted a spot on the All-Atlantic Sun Conference second team, and in 2015 he was named to the Johnny Bench Award watch list. As a sophomore Morgan helped the Owls win their first-ever conference championship and was MVP of the conference tournament.

He lettered in football, basketball and baseball at McIntosh and was a member of the Georgia Dugout Club top 100 as well as a Baseball Factory/Under Armour national top prospect and a two-time all-county selection.
