For some students, school lunches are the main meal of the day. So what happens when school is out for the summer?

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) offers a Summer Food Services Program for eligible students where they can receive nutritious free meals at locations throughout the nation, including Fayette County. Students who qualified for free or reduced price lunches during school year may be eligible to participate.

Parents who are interested should contact the Fayette County Division of Family and Children Services, 770-830-2178, to find out if their child meets eligibility requirements, and to receive information on local organizations that will be participating in the summer food program.

Parents can also use the following link to find locations near their neighborhoods: www.fns.usda.gov/summer-food-rocks. The program will begin after the last day of school and continue until school starts Aug. 8.
