The fourth annual Joey’s Toy Box Spring Brunch is Saturday, April 30, at The Oak Room at The Inn at Serenbe, 10950 Hutcheson Ferry Road in Chattahoochee Hills.
Doors open at 9 a.m. which gives attendees time to bid on silent auction items. Brunch begins at 10:30 and is catered by Serenbe. Tickets are $35 and may be purchased at brownpapertickets.com.
The master of ceremonies for the morning will be Corby Carlin Winters, and there will be guest speakers as well.
Madison Horne will be singing. She is a “Team Joey Warrior” and is currently undergoing treatment for pediatric cancer.
The proceeds from this event will benefit Joey’s Toy Box, a 501(c)(3) located in Newnan. Its mission is to provide comfort and support to the Children and Families of the Aflac Cancer Center and Blood Disorders Services located at Scottish Rite, Egleston and Hughes Spalding Children’s Hospitals. This is accomplished by providing toys, games, DVD’s, DVD players, Xbox games, gaming systems, arts, crafts and and other items the child life specialists and/or social workers request.
The organization also provides “second wishes” for some children such as a small trip, shopping spree, day at the zoo or aquarium, etc.
Some of the more unusual items provided for children have included: a dog run so a little boy did not have to give up the family dog while undergoing treatment; a bed for a young man who grew rapidly due to his radiation treatment and outgrew his twin-sized bed; a special birthday party for a young lady; and a photo shoot for a young man who was going to his prom with the Tim Tebow Foundation (these photos made national news).
Christmas is provided for at least three families per year. This includes at least three items from each child’s wish list as well as a gift for mom and dad. Last year that meant Christmas for 17 children.
