Butterfly awareness at next meeting

The Monarch Butterfly, the distinctive black and orange species that migrates from Canada to Mexico each year, is becoming endangered.

This spring, the Fayette Master Gardener Association has begun a project to raise awareness of the Monarch’s plight. Homeowners and communities can help reverse this potential species extinction simply by planting milkweed, according to an FMGA spokesperson.

Susan Meyers, a conservation specialist who has worked with Monarchs Across Georgia, will be the guest speaker at the FMGA meeting scheduled for Tuesday, March 15, at 11 a.m. at the Bridge Community Center, 225 Willow Bend Road in Peachtree City.

The program is free and open to the public. Four-inch pots of milkweed will be on sale at the meeting for those who are inspired to get involved.
