“Ring of Fire,” the jukebox musical all about Johnny Cash opens at The Legacy Theatre Jan. 16 and runs until Feb.15. The show features all the songs audiences know and love performed live along with gripping narrative about the life of the “Man in Black.”
Artistic director, Mark Smith said, “I am so excited for audiences to experience this show. Whether you’re a long-time Cash fan, or only know a few hits, you’re going to love it. The cast is remarkable and the five performers not only act and sing the show, but they are all extremely talented musicians who play the music live as well.”
“When the cast and I got together the first time, we all shared our personal ‘relationship’ with Cash’s music,” said the show’s sirector, Scott Bradley. “Although we each came to appreciate Johnny from different perspectives, there was one thing that was consistent: the deeply personal and honest nature of the man was impactful on us individually. We hope we can effectively share that with the audiences.”
Along with the title song, “Ring of Fire”, audiences will surely recognize their favorite Cash tunes including “Folsom Prison Blues”, “I Walk the Line”, and “Boy Named Sue”. However, the show also highlights other important, sometimes lesser known, songs including “Flesh and Blood”, “I Still Miss Someone” and a beautiful arrangement of “Angel Band”.
Scott Bradley returns to Legacy where he also directed “Smoke on the Mountain” and “A Tuna Christmas.” Not only did Bradley direct this production, but he also served as musical director. The ensemble of actor/musicians include Amanda Bridgette, Daniel Burns, Paul Glodfelter , Mike Parker and Jeremy Varner.
Next, The Legacy Theatre will be producing the official developmental production and Atlanta premiere of “Rocket Boys,” based on the book that inspired the film ‘October Sky’ which will open in April. Following “Rocket Boys” and finishing out the season will be the movie musical hit, “Footloose” in the summer of 2015.
