Midwest Food Bank Mahj for Meals Event a Resounding Success

Midwest Food Bank is feeding hungry people, one tile at a time. Their inaugural Mahj for Meals Fundraiser brought 156 Mahjong players together to rack their tiles for meals and smiles.  The exciting event was a true testament to the amazing support our community provides for the mission of Midwest Food Bank of alleviating hunger and malnutrition in our communities.

This meaningful day of community, connection, and friendly American Mahjong social play brought Mahjong players together to make a lasting impact while enjoying a shared love of the game. Not only did the participants generously donate 1,617 pounds of food, but their financial support raised funds allowing Midwest Food Bank to rescue and distribute $385,000 of food! 

“What a blessing this is to the nonprofits we are partnering with in the fight against food insecurity,” shared Lina Martin, Project Coordinator at Midwest Food Bank. “Combining the love for the game of Mahjong together with meaningful purpose resulted in a high-energy, successful event, and a fun time by all!”

Mahj for Meals was made possible through the generosity of top sponsor, “The Joker Sponsor,” Cooper Lighting Solutions and “Bird Bam Sponsor”, Watlington & Buckles, Inc. The collaboration with Fayette Mahj Social Club in planning a first-time Mahjong fundraiser ensured the event’s success. Beautiful donations, such as a custom Mahjong table made by Yerkey Creative and a one-of-a-kind Peachtree City-themed tile and mat created and donated by Emerson Graham Designs took the raffle to another level! 

The Midwest Food Bank volunteers did what they do best – serve others, representing Midwest Food Bank with excellence. Lastly, Mahj for Meals was truly made a profitable success due to the generosity of Rashad and Patrice Armstrong, owners of The Venue at 240 Glynn Street and The Hummingbird Wine Bar and Market. Their flexibility and excellent hospitality at their stunning venue ensured an elegant experience for this inaugural event.

The generous and kind spirit of the contributors and attendees will allow Midwest Food Bank to continue serving their nonprofit partners with excellence. Lina Martin exclaims, “We are humbled and blessed to be a part of such a supportive community and are excited to start planning another fabulous Mahj for Meals next year!”
