Residents urged not to set lake on fire

On Oct. 1, the statewide burn ban comes to an end and once again and residents will be able to burn yard debris after obtaining a burn permit through the city website at www.peachtree-city.org/burn

Lake Peachtree will not be refilled this winter, and tall grass and weeds have overtaken the lake bed. As fall approaches, these grasses and weeds will brown and dry out as they go dormant for the winter. While not a significant threat, this additional fuel load does increase the risk of a grass fire in the area.

The Peachtree City Fire Dept. is asking all property owners along the lake shore to contact the Fire Marshal’s Office at 770-631-2526 prior to burning yard debris. They will assist in making sure the fire is safe and does not pose a hazard to the lake bed.
