Hapeville, Ga – The Academy Theatre is bringing a world premiere multimedia rendition of ‘Beowulf’ to the stage from October 24th to November 9th. Written by Phillip Depoy and directed by Rosemary Newcott, the show uses film, puppetry, and live action to tell the oldest written story in the English language in a wholly new way.

In a time when each individual must confront all kinds of evil, Depoy’s lyrical take on ‘Beowulf’ has never been more timely. With original music, fight choreography by Jessica Bennett, and an amazing cast, this one act show will both wow the senses and give the audience something to consider.

‘Beowulf’ tells the story of a mead hall attacked each night by Grendel, a monster who finds the joy and singing of the people there agonizing. No one has been able to slay Grendel until Beowulf fights him off. His mother then comes to avenge him, but Beowulf’s usual brawn won’t save him. Will he slay all the evils that would attack us? Be at the show and find out.

Artistic Director Robert Drake says, “We did this project because we want to reinvigorate the values of some of our greatest stories, and to encourage individuals to see that they can stand up as champions for what they believe in”

Playwright Philip DePoy says, “This really is a play for our times. I’m amazed at how relevant it it”

Director Rosemary Newcott adds, “I am so proud of this cast and the work they are doing. They are really doing great work.”

The show features the on stage actors Louis Kyper as Beowulf with Casey Cudmore, S-Netchem Hetep, Avery France, Porter Scanlon, Jason Hamlet, Jasmine Nira Hooper, Ann Powell, and Kenneth Nance Jr. as Hrothgar.
