In spite of a cold front and rain drizzling all day, the Grand Opening of Trader Joe’s made an even bigger splash than company officials might have anticipated. According to Peachtree City Trader Joe’s Store Manager Reggie Jones, Monday’s Grand Opening set both a one-day revenue record and a customer number record for all Trader Joe’s in Georgia. Jones told The Citizen that 3,583 customers checked out on Monday.

According to a former Fayette County Development Authority President, Matt Forshee, he pitched Fayette County to Trader Joe’s corporate offices about 18 years ago while in California. Since then, maybe even before then, countless local people (including this editor) have filled out the online form where a person can request a Trader Joe’s to locate near you.

According to Store Manager Jones, this Trader Joe’s has been in the works for quite some time. “Because the closest store is the Midtown store, and that’s 36 miles from this store, the demand has been there for years.”

Jones also suggests that Trader Joe’s will be a regional draw, that he’s had people from as far as LaGrange and Columbus come in. And he mentions customers from Fayetteville, Newnan, Sharpsburg, Tyrone, Fairburn. and other more local towns.

As The Citizen covered in Monday’s story about the Grand Opening, over 600 people waited in a line that extended around the The Avenue’s building as far back as Bath & Body Works, according to some reports.

People who are coming in often get a big cartful, too, like one of the first 20 in the store, Adrienne Robinson who said, “I’m just really happy Trader Joe’s is in Peachtree City, and I show up like a crazy woman, because I wanted to get a little bit of everything.”

After she got home, Robinson, who had been in line from 7:15 to 9 a.m. to get in to Trader Joe’s, quickly texted, “Highly recommend the Pumpkin Kringle!”
