Fayette County Retired Educators will meet today at 10:30 a.m. at the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church. Our program will feature a program by Evercare Hospice. The role of hospice groups is sometimes misunderstood. This is an opportunity to learn first hand what services are available. Our group is organized as a support and advocacy group for retired educators. We also keep members up to date on information from the Georgia Legislature. The Fayette County Faith-based Disaster Network will hold its annual conference on today at New Hope Baptist Church.
The keynote speaker will be former Adairsville City Manager Pat Cook, who will speak on the faith-based recovery effort that followed tornadoes that struck the city last year. Breakout sessions will include presentations such as praise and preparedness in your church, active shooter planning in your church, an amateur radio emergency service overview, disaster team overview, emerging threats and protecting yourself, using social media in disasters, the National Weather Service and an overview of the Ga. Emergency Management Agency.
The conference is free though an RSVP is required due to limited seating. RSVP no later than Feb. 3 if planning to attend. Conference registration begins at 8:15 a.m. on the day of the event. The conference runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Lunch will be served. New Hope Baptist Church is located at 551 New Hope Road in north Fayette County.

Robert J. Burch Elementary will be having its fourth annual Burch Bear Tracks today at 8 a.m. and includes Tot Trot, Mile Fun Run, and a 5K race. The primary goal for this event is to promote health and wellness through fitness as well as raise money for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in their effort to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. The secondary goal is to fund Burch’s running club in which hundreds of students participate.
