The Coweta County Commission on Tuesday had no objection to the annexation request by Newnan of a 4.9-acre tract at Bullsboro Drive near Interstate 85 that is expected to be the location of a Nissan dealership.
The site is located on the south side of Bullsboro Drive adjacent Parkway North and I-85. County planning staff said the site owner, Scott Smith and Newnan Investments, LLC, has approximately 10 acres adjacent to the property proposed for annexation. The property is the former location of the Phillips 66 convenience store and Motel 6, county staff said. Both properties have been razed and the sites are vacant.
The applicant is requesting the city’s Community General Commercial District (CGN) zoning.
A March 14 letter to Smith from Nissan of Union City noted that, if approved by the city, the project would amount to a $10 million investment in land and building development using all local commerce and vendors.
County planning staff in the April 16 presentation noted that the new car dealership could be expected to total 37,000 square feet of building space with an average daily traffic flow of more than 1,200 vehicles.
If the project goes according to plan, the dealership will be the second to come online in Newnan recently. The new Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram dealer on Ga. Highway 34 across from the Summit Family YMCA is set to open for business.
These and other venues, such as the wealth of healthcare providers establishing offices and facilities in the area, are slowly but effectively putting Coweta in front of the property development curve that is beginning to reappear in some areas of southwest metro Atlanta.
