County teams win at region academic bowl

County teams filled the winners’ podium at the 2025-2026 Griffin RESA Academic Bowl.

McIntosh won the high school varsity division, with Starr’s Mill in 2nd and Sandy Creek in 3rd.

The McIntosh team is Amanda Agnos, Rosselaira Cruz, Alex Gomez, Om Khasnis, Shree Khasnis, Diego Laverde, Mya Otico, Max Smiley, and Saket Sonone. They are coached by Felecia Gunn.

Starr’s Mill won the junior varsity division, with McIntosh in 2nd and Fayette County High in 3rd.

The Starr’s Mill JV team is Matthew Baber, Elisabeth Hipps, Aaron Jiang, Jack Lambert, Bronson Marx, Matthew McCormick, Cyan Munroe, and Alex Saunders. They are coached by Tony Kluemper.

J.C. Booth won the middle school division, with Rising Starr in 2nd place.

The JC Booth team is Amogh Ramesh, Paul Vu, Saakshaat Sawhney, Ella Henderson, Mia Maranzano, Priya Joiner, and Lily Park. They are coached by Jason Bingel and Noelle Oates.

The Griffin RESA Academic Bowl contest is a regional competition among middle and high schools in the Griffin RESA region, which consists of the following school systems: Butts, Fayette, Henry, Lamar, Newton, Pike, Spalding, and Upson.

Varsity teams finishing in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will represent the region in the Georgia Regional Academic Bowl (GRAB). The 1st and 2nd place junior varsity teams will also compete. The GRAB State Championship will be held on March 7 at Northgate High School.
