Santa Claus will arrive by helicopter this week to deliver gifts to students at Joseph Sams School, continuing a holiday tradition made possible by the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation. They’re calling it Operation Santa Claus.

Santa is scheduled to land at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 17, aboard a UH-1 Huey helicopter at the Trilith Pond Field, bounded on the east by Heatherden Avenue. The helicopter transport is provided by the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and honoring Army aviation history.

The event is primarily for Joseph Sams School students, staff, faculty, and their families, but residents of Trilith and surrounding areas are also invited to watch Santa’s arrival.

Organizers said the annual helicopter visit is designed to create a memorable holiday experience for students at the school, which serves children with special needs from across the region.

Questions about the event can be directed to organizer Bob Dalton at 770-461-4450.
