Patricia Irene Card Raftis, aged 79, passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning of November 21, 2025. She spent her last weeks at home, in Sharpsburg, GA, in the company of her loving family and friends.
Pat was born to parents Harold and Gloria Card, on September 24, 1946, and grew up in Redondo Beach, CA alongside her sister Gloria Sohler. She met her beloved husband of 60 years, Michael Raftis, at the beach while still in high school. They dated for five years before marrying. Together, they had two children, Janet and Alex Raftis, who they raised in Manhattan Beach, CA. Through Janet, they have one grandson, Jake Willoughby.
In 1989, she moved to the Atlanta area when her husband was transferred. Here, she created a network of friendships that lasted until her death. Pat was active in the Grandview PTA throughout her children’s time in elementary school. After their children were older, she attended a trade school to learn to become a travel agent, a dream job for a woman who loved to travel as much as she did. She traveled the world with her family, her friends, and often on her own. Not only did she travel to almost every continent, it didn’t matter where she was – her hometown, a different state, or an entirely new country – she always knew exactly how to navigate her environment. It was not uncommon for locals in other places to ask her for directions – which she always knew! Furthering this skill of hers, she served as a volunteer guide during the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, greeting the athletes and helping them to get oriented in their new surroundings.
Pat poured love into everything she made. She sewed, did needlepoint, and knitted the coziest afghans that almost anyone who’s known her (and beyond) enjoys. She was a wonderful cook and baker and her love was felt in everything she prepared. She was committed to her family and friends and prioritized them in her life, often going out of her way to support them however she could. She will be remembered for her sharp intellect, lively conversations, and the care she shared with those she loved.
She is survived by her husband, Michael; her sister, Gloria; her son, Alex; her daughter, Janet; and her grandson, Jake. Pat will be deeply missed. Also missed will be all the things others can’t find because she’s not around to tell them where they are. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and Oma and her family, while mourning her loss, are incredibly grateful for all they received from her. She will be remembered, honored, and loved by all of us.
We welcome you to provide your condolences, thoughts, and memories on our Tribute Wall.
