McIntosh journalism students honored

Members of The Trail, the student news site of McIntosh High, took home several awards at the state convention for the Georgia Scholastic Press Association (GSPA). 

Nearly 1,000 student-journalists from around the state gathered in Athens for the GSPA’s First Edition and photography contest. 

Senior Evan Sorto won 2nd place Feature Story for “McIntosh reenters the fight for human rights with Amnesty International.” 

Senior Yasemin Kalpakci won 2nd place Sports Story for “Ace the game: Chiefs varsity volleyball win against Woodward and Midtown.”

Junior Molly Bennett won 2nd place Opinion Story for “Pay them what you owe them: Why WNBA stars deserve more than spare change, “

Sophomore Vivian Gersch-Vertullo earned an Honorable Mention in the On-the-Spot photography contest. 

It wasn’t the only accolades The Trail has earned recently. Sports Editor Connor Lafontant was recognized with a Best of SNO national distinction for his piece on McIntosh alum Parker Romo making his debut with the Atlanta Falcons. Earlier this school year, Nyla Kerr earned Best of SNO recognition for her story on student Leo Gill playing with the Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony.
