To better understand their studies of heat, Sara Harp Minter Elementary 3rd graders cooked up s’mores in handmade solar ovens.
Students put their knowledge of heat absorption and reflection to the test by designing solar ovens. By using black paper to absorb heat and aluminum foil to reflect the sun’s rays, they were able to cook their own delicious s’mores treats.
Teacher Rebecca Weiss was happy to see the students enjoy the tasty experiment.
“Our hope is that this solidified their understanding of how the sun’s heat works, and it was a really good way to assess their understanding from the unit.”
