The Rev’d Scott Wayne Quinn, Sharpsburg, was recently installed as a Deacon in the Diocese of the Mid-South and assigned to the Cathedral of Christ the King, Sharpsburg. Quinn was born in Lakewood, NJ. Following high school graduation, he attended and graduated from the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. He was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy and completed his tour as a Lieutenant (0-3). He received the Navy Commendation Medal for “outstanding performance above and beyond the call of duty while serving as a Division Officer onboard the U.S.S. Doyle.”
Quinn married Karen Ann Kozireski and the couple has four children.
After the Navy, Quinn served as a Sales Engineer for CARPCO, Inc, Jacksonville, FL, and as a Sales Manager, then Account Manager, and finally as a Senior Account Manager for NALCO Chemical Co, Atlanta, GA. He also attended several professional job-related courses of study.
In 2004, the Quinn family became part of Christ the King and Quinn became a Bible study teacher and taught Hebrews, James, and Galatians. He also became an ALPHA Course leader for the church. He began studies at St. Michael’s Seminary, enrolling in the Master of Ministry degree program, and was ordained a Deacon in August 2008. He also became a member of the Rector’s Council. After serving faithfully for several years, he requested a leave of absence from clerical duties. However, he remained active in community ministry, particularly in serving as a coach for youth in the Coweta County area.
After being unanimously recommended by current members of the Rector’s Council, Quinn rejoined the Rector’s Council in early 2025 and was approached by the diocesan bishop regarding reinstatement as an active Deacon. In August, he was publicly installed during a Sunday service. In the Liturgical/sacramental church, a deacon is a clergyman, not a layperson. Deacons may preach, serve with the priest and bishop during services of Holy Eucharist, publicly read the Gospel, visit the sick and shut-in, have other assignments as requested by the priest and/or bishop, and, under certain circumstances, serve as the pastor of a church.
