Following the health-related resignation of Councilman Frank Destadio on May 5, the Peachtree City Council has decided to leave the seat vacant until the upcoming election season. After the election, the newly elected council member will assume their position in January.

Despite the temporary vacancy, Peachtree City Mayor Kim Learnard emphasized that the council will remain fully capable to work efficiently and serve the city’s residents.

“I can reassure all of our citizens that we will continue business as usual,” said Learnard.

With four remaining members, the council will continue to vote and come to a decision on the matters they have planned. The only exception to this would be a tied vote, in which the council would temporarily delay the final decision until the fifth member is seated in January. This approach allows for a majority vote to exist, preserving the council’s democratic process.

The election to fill the vacant seat will take place in November, aligning with the city’s regular election schedule.
