Scholar and Scribe bookstore in Trilith will host a signing for My Way Home, with local author and illustrator, Holly Heaton.
The event will take place on Saturday, February 22 from 12 to 2 PM.
In Heaton’s children’s picture book, readers enter the hidden realm of the Little Folk and follow Kit on a thrilling adventure. Can he reclaim an object precious to his people and return home to the Hollow Chestnut? Using his wits and environment, Kit embarks on a miniature odyssey through a lushly illustrated world.
How did Kit’s story come to be? According to Holly, “The creek bank in our woods is riddled with holes. Each is an entrance to a maze of tunnels busied by chipmunks, voles, snakes, insects, and who knows what else. Maybe tiny people?
“That thought was the germ for My Way Home, which came in 2021 as a pleasant distraction from the ever-present nausea of pregnancy.
“Two years later, I decided to do something with it. The idea of little humans is not novel; stories of wee folk are present within many cultures. That fact makes me smile. What whimsical creatures we are, and what a delightful turn of fancy is a miniature version of us, picking its way through a world made exciting, dangerous, and foreign simply by a change of perspective”.
Regarding the illustration process, Holly enthuses, “The full color pages were the most challenging and gratifying. That’s where I was able to truly celebrate the flora and fauna of the piedmont and southern Appalachia, tucking animals, insects, and plants along the margins”.
Holly has lived in south and western metro Atlanta her whole life, calling the Fayette area home for the last seven years. “I am so grateful to Scholar and Scribe for hosting the event. It is a joy to receive such support from my home county”.
My Way Home is available from Amazon and other online booksellers. A limited number of copies can be purchased from Scholar and Scribe at the signing.
