Caregiver burnout forum for fathers who have children with special needs to take place at Line Creek Brewery Bus Barn on January 25.

A roundtable for fathers who care for children with special needs, followed by a Q & A and general fellowship will take place Thursday, January 25 beginning at 6 p.m. at Line Creek Brewery Bus Barn in Fayetteville.

“Raising a child who requires extra support and advocacy can wear down even the most resilient person. At this event, our dads will discuss and learn strategies to prioritize self-care,” said Leigh Curry, Executive Director of Southside Support.

The event, called, “Dads Who Care,” is sponsored by Southside Support, a Peachtree City-based nonprofit which connects families of children with special needs and individuals living with disabilities in south metro Atlanta with valuable resources in our community and also with each other.

Following the success of its first event in September 2023, the “Dads Who Care” is slated to be a quarterly event.

The forum will be moderated by Fayetteville resident Mark Wallace Maguire. Maguire is the parent of a 16-year-old son with special needs and the author of multiple books including, “Confessions of a Special Needs Dad.”

“Being the father of a child with special needs is a lonely journey,” Maguire said. “Events like these provide men with opportunities to connect and hear stories and strategies from other fathers. The panel will be enriching, but the time afterward in a less formal setting is equally as important in finding connections and support. This event is for any man helping raise a child with special needs.”
