UPDATED — A home invasion was thwarted by an armed homeowner and resulted in the suspect being taken to a hospital.

Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb issued a statement reporting that deputies were dispatched shortly before 2 a.m. Sept. 14 to a call regarding a burglary in progress, with an active alarm and a potential intruder, at a home in the northern end of the county.

Deputies responded in less than three minutes, but the homeowner was forced to defend his family before they arrived “by discharging a firearm, which resulted in injuries to the intruder,” Babb stated.

When deputies arrived, they immediately began providing first aid until emergency services arrived and transported the injured suspect to the hospital.

A red Ford truck was found outside the residence and is believed to have been the suspect’s mode of transportation. The truck was reported stolen out of Ohio and displayed a license plate from a different state.

The homeowners confirmed that they did not know the suspect. It was also discovered that the suspect had approached several houses before targeting the residence in question.

The suspect was identified by Babb as Michael Brooks II, 28, of Columbus, Ohio. Brooks has an extensive criminal history and is wanted in connection with the Sept. 9 home invasion and fatal stabbing of a woman in Columbus. He is also wanted in connection with the hijacking of a red Ford F-150 in Kettering, Ohio, which later linked him to the Fayette home invasion.

Brooks remains hospitalized and faces charges in Georgia of home invasion, burglary, and theft by receiving. An Ohio arrest warrant for murder will be served once he is released from medical care.

The FCSO’s Criminal Investigation Division and Crime Scene Unit have been actively working this case locally and also collaborating with authorities in Columbus to gather additional information and evidence related to the suspect’s criminal activities.

“The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office commends the swift response and collaboration of all involved parties, including the homeowners, the alarm company, public safety dispatchers, law enforcement officer, and emergency medical services. Their collective efforts have contributed to the successful apprehension of the suspect and the ongoing progress of the investigation,” said Babb.

“The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office assures the community that it remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents.”

EARLIER VERSION: A North Fayette resident defended his family from a homicide suspect in a 1:55 a.m. home invasion by shooting the intruder, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office said in a Sept. 14 news release.

“Despite a less than 3-minute response time by FCSO deputies, the homeowner was forced to defend his family by discharging a firearm, which resulted in injuries to the intruder,” said the news release.

“Upon arrival, deputies immediately provided first aid [to the intruder] until emergency medical services arrived and transported the injured suspect to the hospital,” the news release said.

The deputies were dispatched to the home after a home alarm alerted them about a “potential intruder,” the SO release said.

The wounded intruder has not been identified, nor has the homeowner.

Deputies say “the suspect could be related to a string of crimes, including homicide, out of state.”

The moral of this story is if you’re happy with the ideology of the Left and keep voting them up in then PTC will become a city embedded with that ideology. Yes be careful who you vote for and I suggest the republicans, conservatives or traditional voters get their game together or PTC will be overrun by these people with Democrat ideology.
