County poetry recitation winners advance to regions

Practice made perfect for competitors at the annual Fayette County Poetry Recitation Contest, with winners in each grade level advancing to the regional competition.

The victors are Braelinn Elementary’s Oliver Queen (kindergarten), Kedron Elementary’s Aarya Jaiganesh (1st grade), Spring Hill Elementary’s Kayla Williams (2nd grade) Kedron Elementary’s Jaida Shields (3rd grade), Peeples Elementary’s Elijah White, and Cleveland Elementary’s Piper Kendrick (5th grade).

Students are judged on stage presence, articulation, interpretation, difficulty of piece, and memory and accuracy. They can earn extra points for fluency, gestures and expression.

The Griffin RESA Regional Literacy Days Festival includes students from the school systems of Butts, Fayette, Henry, Lamar, Newton, Pike, Spalding, and Upson counties.
