Fayetteville, Ga. (May 31, 2022) – June is recognized as Cancer Survivors Month, and Piedmont Fayette Hospital and Thomas F. Chapman Family Cancer Wellness Center plan on recognizing survivors during Walk with a Doc on Saturday, June 18.

Damien Hansra, M.D. will lead June’s walk. Dr. Hansra is a medical oncologist specializing in hematology at Piedmont Fayette. He earned his medical degree at the University of Miami and completed his residency and fellowship at the University of Miami – Jackson Memorial Hospital. Dr. Hansra is board certified in Hematology, Medical Oncology, and Internal Medicine. He is particularly interested in wellness and the role weight management and wellness play in cancer prevention and preventing recurrence of the disease.

“Obesity causes inflammation and inflammation can drive cancer and other chronic illnesses,” said Dr. Hansra. “Making lifestyle changes allows patients to fight fatigue, increase stamina, and reduce their long-term risk for recurrence.”

Walk with a Doc takes place on the third Saturday of every month from June through October. The walks start promptly at 8:30 a.m. at the Peachtree City Farmers Market at Aberdeen Village and go to Battery Park and back (approximately 40 minutes). Walk participants are encouraged to shop with Peachtree City Market vendors after the walk.

Walk with a Doc is free, but reservations are required. Email PFHRSVP@piedmont.org to save your spot.
