Plan to attend the event Friday —
Relay For Life of Fayette County is proud to announce it has raised $100,718 for the American Cancer Society, surpassing its $100,000 goal with one week to go before the county’s largest cancer fundraising event. Nearly 500 registered participants and 29 local sponsors contributed to that effort, and the total is expected to rise significantly after next Friday.
“We are thrilled to see Fayette County coming together in such an impactful way,” said event co-chair Abby Bradley. “It is a true reflection of the power of our community and will make the Relay for Life event on Aug. 23 that much more of a celebration.”
This year, Relay For Life has exceeded its goals in fundraising, sponsorship, registered cancer survivors and the number of participants who sign up to fundraise during the year. Additionally, every school in the district has registered a team to help with fundraising.
“We are excited to have partnered with the Fayette County School System to achieve 100 percent school participation,” said Jennifer Walker, event co-chair. “Abby and I both grew up here in Fayette County, and Relay for Life was the most prominent fundraising event of the year when we were in school. Everyone is looking forward to it.”
Relay For Life will be held on Friday, Aug. 23 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Pinewood Forest. The event will be packed with family-friendly entertainment, including an outdoor Disney movie (“Brave”), live music, food and games. Contrary to what some may think, it is not a racing event and it is not necessary to pre-register.
