August 15, 1930 – December 24, 2017

Mr. Stewart J. “Skillett” Kilgore age 87 of Griffin passed away Sunday, December 24, 2017 at Eternal Hope Hospice.

Mr. Kilgore was born in Columbus, Georgia on August 15, 1930. He is preceded in death by parents, Leonard Kilgore and Lucile Mallory Kilgore; wife, Sarah Louise Chapman Kilgore; brother and sister, Donald Kilgore and Nancy Smith. Mr. Kilgore was a veteran of the United States Army. He worked for Bellsouth Inc. before retiring and was a member of Crestview Baptist Church where he was the oldest active member of the church, active in the Brotherhood, Usher, Greeter, a dedicated member of the Crestview choir where he sang bass and very involved with visitation being sure families were visited each week.

Survivors include, his son, Calvin and wife, Elaine Kilgore; grandchildren, April and husband, Timothy Powell, Tom Kilgore and George Kilgore; great grandchildren, Steven Powell and Abigail Powell; sister, Martha Thompson; several nieces and nephews.

The visitation for Stewart J. Kilgore was on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Conner Westbury.  The funeral was conducted on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Conner-Westbury. Pastor Thomas Hill officiated. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery with military honors.
