Runners of all ages and abilities have the chance to compete in the Peachtree City Running Club’s 2017 Summer Track Series.
Meets will take place all four Wednesday nights in June at Riley Field adjacent to Peachtree City Elementary School on Wisdom Road. Championship meets are July 5 and 6.
Registration each night starts at 6 p.m. and the first event is at 6:30. There is no entry fee for runners or spectators.
Events include the 50-yard dash (age 10 and under), 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 800-meter run, mile run, 3,200-meter run, 5K run, 4×100-meter relay, and 4×400-meter relay. There is also a parent-child relay (child runs 400 meters, parent runs 400). There are no field events.
In the regular weekly meets all events will be run in various heats based on the number of runners. For the championship series the events will be run in heats based on age groups and sex.
Awards will be presented for the championship meets only. The rain date for the championship series will be July 7.
Each night’s regular meet begins with the 800-meter run at 6:30 p.m. Next in order is the 50-yard dash, 100- or 200-meter dash, mile run, parent-child relay, 400-meter dash, 4×100- or 4×400-meter relay, and 5K or 3,200-meter run.
Except for the 800 meters, all events will be started early when possible.
The 100-meter dash, 4×100-meter relay and 3,200-meter run will take place June 7 and 21. The 200-meter dash, 4×400-meter relay and 5K run will be June 14 and 28.
Championship events July 5, in order, are the 100-meter dash, 800-meter run, 200-meter dash and 5K run. The order of events for July 6 includes the mile run, 50-yard dash, 400-meter dash and 3,200-meter run.
All heats in weekly competition meets will stress safety and quick times by being limited in number. The track surface is rubberized and soft. All timing is done by electronic equipment.
