A Fayette County elementary student took first place in the Griffin RESA region in the Young Georgia Authors Writing Competition, and her work will now advance to the state-level competition for another round of judging.

Aria Brooks of Spring Hill Elementary won the regional competition in the fourth grade division.
Her writing will be reviewed by a judging panel of English Language Arts professionals in consideration for a state award.
Winners will be announced on or before May 12.

The writing contest begins in each school with a school-wide competition. One winning entry is selected per grade level.
Those entries result in a system level contest where one winner per grade level is selected for the county, and sent to the regional competition.
Regional winners then compete against other regions at the state level.
