The Heritage Community Foundation presented a $2,500 grant Nov. 21 to executive director Constance Daise and other staff members of Alzheimer’s Services Center, Inc.
The money will be used to purchase memory-based games and supplies. Because Alzheimer’s disease and dementia affect memory retention, especially short-term retention, all daily activities are based on memory stimulation and preservation.
Due to recent cuts in funding, ASC has not been able to purchase new materials needed for these activities in some time. The HCF grant will enable them to upgrade and update these most necessary supplies.
Janice Alleyne Coye, who passed away earlier this year, founded the Alzheimer’s Services Center 28 years ago. The mission of ASC is to enhance and prolong the highest quality of life possible for persons with Alzheimer’s disease and other related disorders and for those who are their caregivers.
Every client in the care of ASC has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia. ASC offers affordable adult day services, respite care, and support services. The Center provides a supportive, structured environment in which participants benefit from socialization, physical exercise, therapeutic activities, medical monitoring, counseling and long-term care planning.
