Two Atlanta men have been charged after Fayette County sheriff’s deputies found five pieces of heavy equipment at a Westbridge Road residence in north Fayette.
Jimmie Jackson, 52, and Justin Mitchell, 33, were charged with five counts of felony theft by receiving. Jackson was also charged with three counts of felony altercation and removal of serial numbers. Jackson also has an outstanding warrant from Rockdale County, said Sheriff Barry Babb.
Babb said the Atlanta Police Department on Nov. 28 advised that a GPS locator indicated that a piece of stolen construction equipment had been pinpointed at a residence at 500 Westbridge Road.
Babb said the Catepillar Model 246C was located in the yard at the residence along with other construction equipment.
“Deputies determined that some of the equipment was stolen, with some of it having altered VIN numbers,” said Babb.
Other stolen equipment included a Polaris 4-wheeler stolen from Montoe County, a Bobcat G series stolen from Cobb County, a tandem trailer stolen from Cobb and a Bobcat 3222 stolen from Fulton County, Babb said.
The investigation is ongoing and involves other construction equipment, some of which have VIN numbers missing, said Babb.
Babb said the homeowner, Jackson’s girlfriend, was not charged.
