A local 40-over team will be taking the court to vie for a United States Tennis Association national championship next week.

After a 14-week season competing against other teams from Fayetteville, Peachtree City and Newnan, the team amassed a 12-0 record and advanced to the state tournament in Augusta. Playing group stage matches against teams from all over the state, they went 6-0 during group

play and won all three lines in the finals to take the state title.

From there is was a trip to Chattanooga for last month’s USTA section- al tournament. Teams in that field hailed from Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina and South Carolina.

The Peachtree City team emerged from the four-match group stage with a 3-1 record, securing a spot in

the finals against a team from Hattiesburg, Miss. The 2-1 win gave them the sectional crown and the right to be the first team from the Peachtree City Tennis Center to ever represent the city at the national champion- ships, scheduled for Nov. 11-13 in Surprise, Ariz.

At this tournament they will compete against 17 other sectional winners from all over the United States as well as Puerto Rico.
