The Eagles soared to the top. Flat Rock beat Whitewater for the county middle school football championship, 28-14.
The title game win capped off a perfect 6-0 season.
“It felt great to finish the deal as we lost in the championship game last year. This group put in a lot of work all spring and summer to get to this point,” said Flat Rock coach D. Bryant. “Our motto was ‘keep stacking.’ We wanted to keep stacking the days and getting better, and that is what we did each day.”
The offense was keyed by quarterback Landon Connally, running back James Lewis, receiver Jacob Johnson, lineman Alexander Holston, and receiver Aydin Sims. Their defense was led by lineman Kiyan Simmons and linebacker Austin Boyd.
Bryant looked back to the winning play on 4th and 1 in the semifinal when Connally found Sims for a touchdown, calling it magic.
“After the play I said, ‘We have no choice but to win it all,’” said Bryant. “I told this group this summer that they were, from top to bottom, a better team than last year’s team that included some guys who are now getting varsity action at Sandy Creek. Once they heard that, they were ready to go out and win it all, and they did just that.”
