Major David Serafin, commander of the Peachtree City Falcon Field Composite Squadron, was being presented the Paul E. Garber Award, by Lt. Col. David Austin, Group VI Commander of the Georgia Wing Civil Air Patrol.
The presentation took place Aug. 18.
Of CAP’s 35,000 senior members, fewer than 200 earn the Paul E. Garber Award annually.
The Paul E. Garber Award recognizes those members who have dedicated themselves to leadership and personal development in CAP. This award was first given in 1964 and honors the late Paul E. Garber. Mr. Garber was a noted aviation pioneer, curator emeritus of the National Air and Space Museum, and early champion of Civil Air Patrol.
Part of the achievement has been informing their communities about CAP, train fellow members in a variety of courses, serve in command or leadership positions. In addition to Peachtree City Falcon Field Squadron commander duties, Major David Serafin, is a mission check pilot, transport pilot, orientation pilot and skills evaluator.
The program enables these adults to develop these skills while providing a vital public service to our nation.
Currently, Peachtree City Falcon Field Composite Squadron GA116 meets every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 225 Robinson Road, Peachtree City. Ages 12 and up are welcome to join. Find out more about GA-116 at www.GA116.org or on Facebook.
