The Fayetteville Police Department and Fayette Senior Services partnered recently to host an informative and friendly morning of Coffee with a Cop. The program’s goals are to promote a positive relationship between citizens and local officer’s in addition to engaging local community in public safety efforts.

Those who attended enjoyed meeting law enforcement officers, socializing, and hearing important information about safety in the City of Fayetteville. Scott Pitts, Chief of Police with the Fayetteville Police Department was very excited about the success of the program and is looking forward to offering more sessions with FSS.

“We know it is very important to continue to engage our Senior Citizens. Having this event at Fayette Senior Services seemed like an ideal venue. FSS’ outreach and community involvement is a perfect match for what we are trying to accomplish,” said Pitts.

Coffee with a Cop is a national movement that aims to build trust between community members and police officers. It’s a simple concept – police officers and community members come together in an informal, neutral space to discuss community issues, build relationships, and enjoy a cup of coffee.

One of the keys to this program’s success is that it removes the barriers that routinely exist between officers and citizens, allowing for a relaxed interaction that gives residents an opportunity to feel more informed and safe in their local communities which is critical to public safety and problem solving.

“Fayette Senior Services enjoys working with the Fayetteville Police Department on a number of community programs and is looking forward to continuing a strong partnership to benefit the individuals of Fayette County,” according to a spokesperson.
