Dog jumps 4-foot fence to chase grandmother and toddler

A June 16 incident involving a homeowner firing at a pit bull that entered his yard and chased his wife and their 2-year-old girl resulted in no injuries and a dog that left the scene before officers arrived.

Police reports from June 16 indicate that officers were called at approximately 7:30 p.m. to a home on Tower Road off MacDuff Parkway in reference to an animal case, with the dispatcher advising that the complainant fired shots at the dog.

Officers arriving at the scene were told that an all-brown pit bull had jumped a 4-foot fence, entered the backyard and chased his wife and their 2-year-old granddaughter, reports said.

The man told officers he fired three .45-caliber rounds at the dog, reports said.

Police department spokesman Mark Brown neither the child nor the grandmother were injured, adding that the dog ran away and was not hit by the bullets.

County animal control staff were notified of the incident, reports said.
