“The game was one for the ages,” according to a McIntosh participant. “The best players in the state battling at their best.”
The recent all-star game pitted the White team, led by coach Brendan Murphy of Marist and Jordan Breit of Lowndes, against the Blue team led by Bunky Colvin and John Briglevich of McIntosh.
The White team scored three goals early and it appeared to be over, but Luke Spivey of Dublin High scored just in time to make it 3-1 at intermission.
But the lead would not last, as the White squad was shut out in the second half with McIn- tosh keeper Parker Romo turning away one scoring chance after another. McIntosh center back Michael Zwach took over cleaning up in the back and intercepting passes.
The leading White striker was held scoreless after halftime largely because of McIntosh defender Aaron Brewer. Statesboro defender and AFC Lightning player Alex Wagner held down the White All Star attack and began to build the Blue attack from the back. Takuma Suzuki of McIntosh began controlling the midfield and the tide of possession shifted to the Blue side.
Jake Donaldson subbed into the game as a midfielder and the McIntosh connection was in full force. The Blue All Stars cut the lead to 3-2 in the first 5 minutes of the second half when Temia Flint of Central High received a pass behind the back line and finished it. Twenty minutes into the second half Jay Castro of Bainbridge High tied the game , and Flint scored again 10 minutes later.
With five minutes to play Donaldson ended the White team’s hopes as he received a ball and played it past the keeper into the goal for a 5-3 victory.
