Danielle Gray, a 2012 graduate of McIntosh High School, was named the female Scholar-Athlete of the Year at the University of Mississippi for 2015-16.

She received the honor a month ago at the Rebel’s Choice Awards in Oxford, Miss.

The women’s soccer team of which Gray is a member was named Women’s Team of the Year and took home the Chancellor’s Cup with a combined grade point average of 3.42.

In the final National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll of the 2015 season, Ole Miss came in at No. 16, the highest finish for the program in the school’s history. This came on the heels of a 14-5-4 record and a first-ever trip to the Sweet 16 in the post- season.

Gray played in all but one match in 2015, her first year at Ole Miss after three seasons at Kennesaw State. She logged two goals and three assists in more than 1,100 minutes according to school officials.

The goals came in a 4-0 win over Boise State and also in a 2-2 draw with No. 19 UCF. She had two assists in a 5-0 win over Austin Peay and another in a 1-0 victory over Little Rock.

Gray was a three-year starter at McIntosh, helping the Lady Chiefs win AAAA state championships her junior and senior years. She was named team MVP as a junior and Most Outstanding Midfielder as a senior.
