Coweta Charter Academy at Senoia eighth grade student Hope Hazelton was the first place winner in the recent Charter Schools USA (CSUSA) Science Fair that received entries from 76 schools in the company’s network.

Coweta Charter Academy is proud to announce that Hope Hazelton won first place in the Charter Schools USA Science Fair,” said Principal Gene Dunn. “Her project competed with entries from 76 schools from around the CSUSA network of schools throughout the country. “

Describing the project, Hazelton said it analyzed buoyancy, ship structure and weight efficiency.

“I built three different ship designs, floated them with weights, and measured the displacement of the water,” she said. “I determined, on average, which one displaced the least amount of water. The design that displaced the least amount of water was the one that also supported the most weight.”

Hazelton was awarded a plaque for the school, a certificate and a $100 prize, Dunn said.

“I’m very proud of Hope’s accomplishments,” said Dunn. “Hope is a brilliant young lady. She is diligent in her work and she has a very bright future ahead of her.”
